Tests

Tests are operations you can create and customize to your specific needs for use in the field, at the plant, or in the lab. Use FieldLab Desktop to create, manage and edit Tests in the Test Modes Library. A Test can be added to one or many FieldLab Pressure devices, and some can be run directly from FieldLab Desktop with a connected Ralston device (Ralston FieldLab, Field Gauge, and Process Meter).

  • Calibration Test

Calibration Test Modes are custom tests you create to run on the FieldLab Pressure to test the accuracy of other pressure devices. You can create as many Calibration Tests as you need for each DUT (Device Under Test) you need to keep calibrated.

You can then import the data from your tests to FieldLab Desktop, and export it for use in other applications.

Make your benchtop calibration tests go even faster by using keyboard shortcuts to log each point and advance to the next point.

  • Data Logging Test

Data Logging Tests are Test Modes designed to record pressure data. For each Data Logging Test you create, you can customize the name, assign the Engineering Units, Logging Interval, Session Duration, and Power Settings to conserve battery life as needed.

    • Change Display Sleep: Data Logging Test

When you Activate a Test Mode on the FieldLab, the settings for that Test Mode will apply to the FieldLab as long as that Test Mode is active. Each Test Mode has its own Auto Display Sleep settings.

You can use FieldLab Desktop to adjust the length of time before the screen display turns off to conserve battery life.

    • Auto Backlight Off: Data Logging Test

Use FieldLab Desktop to control the amount of time that the backlight stays on before shutting off automatically to conserve battery life.

Each Test Mode has its own settings. When you Activate a Test Mode on the FieldLab, whatever the settings are for in that Test Mode will apply to the FieldLab as long as that Test Mode is active.

    • View Average of Data Logging Test Mode
    • Create a High Speed Data Logging Test Mode

Use a FieldLab to log pressure at up to 128 times per second.

  • Hydrostatic Test

Record pressure and up to two temperatures over time on a FieldLab to test for leaks and/or the strength of an enclosed vessel.

    • Create a new Hydrostatic Test in FieldLab Desktop

Create a new hydrostatic test in FieldLab Desktop to run on a FieldLab.

    • Run a Hydrostatic Test on a FieldLab

Use a FieldLab and one or more Field Gauges/Process Meters to perform a Hydrostatic Test.

  • Manual Mode

Manual Mode is the default Test Mode that comes pre-installed on the FieldLab.

    • Logging Interval: Manual Mode

Use FieldLab Desktop to adjust the length of time between each point logged.

Each Test Mode has its own Logging Interval settings. When you Activate a Test Mode on the FieldLab, whatever the settings are in that Test Mode will apply to the FieldLab as long as that Test Mode is active.

    • Auto Display Sleep: Manual Mode

Use FieldLab Desktop to adjust the length of time before the screen display turns off to conserve battery life.

Each Test Mode, including Manual Mode, has its own Auto Display Sleep settings. When you Activate a Test Mode on the FieldLab, the settings for that Test Mode will apply to the FieldLab as long as that Test Mode is active.

    • Auto Backlight Off: Manual Mode

Use FieldLab Desktop to control the amount of time that the backlight stays on before shutting off automatically to conserve battery life.

Each Test Mode has its own Auto Backlight Off settings. When you Activate a Test Mode on the FieldLab, whatever the settings are for in that Test Mode will apply to the FieldLab as long as that Test Mode is active.

    • Auto Power Off: Manual Mode

Use FieldLab Desktop to adjust the length of time before the FieldLab automatically Powers Off off to conserve battery life.

Each Test Mode, including Manual Mode, has its own Auto Power Off settings. When you Activate a Test Mode on the FieldLab, the settings for that Test Mode will apply to the FieldLab as long as that Test Mode is active.

  • Pressure Safety Valve (PSV) / Pressure Relief Valve (PRV) Test

FieldLab allows you to eliminate paperwork and reduce mistakes with an all-digital PSV/PRV Test workflow. Record the exact pressure at which a valve cracks & reseats, and use the test data to create detailed reports for each valve tested.

    • Create a New PSV/PRV Test Mode

Learn how to create a PSV/PRV Test Mode and the available settings and options to include in the test.

    • PSV/PRV Test Settings Overview

Quick overview of the PSV/PRV Test Modes settings screen in FieldLab Desktop.

    • Run a PSV/PRV Test with auto crack detection

Use the FieldLab to automatically detect & record the exact pressure at which a valve cracks and reseats, with the additional option of recording Seat Tightness Test results.

    • Run a pressure relief valve test, manually log crack and reseat.

Designed for testing valves that require a technician's expertise to determine the exact pressure at which the valve cracks.

Ideal for scenarios where the crack is determined when the first steady stream, or first continuous flow, of liquid media begins to emerge from the valve.

  • Snapshot Logging Test

Snapshot Logging allows you to use a Ralston FieldLab or Field Gauge to record multiple single data points and save them in one data set, along with the time, date, and any custom information you wish to add.

You have the option of including a target pressure and/or permissible error so that you can easily see if each point is within required specifications at the time of the test and make adjustments as needed, or simply save the data for your records.

Some common uses for this test:

    • Log pressure for each tire on a vehicle, industrial machine, or aircraft.
    • Log temperature for multiple railcars on a train.
    • Log pressure for each pressurized unit of a product as it comes off the assembly line.

Once you have logged the data to a FieldLab or PC, you can export the data to a PDF or CSV file.

    • Run a Snapshot Logging Test on your computer

View and log live single-point pressure readings on your computer, enter any additional metadata your test requires via your keyboard, and save everything to one dataset.

These instructions cover how to run a Snapshot Logging Test on your computer after you have created and saved it to your Tests in FieldLab Desktop.

    • Create a Snapshot Logging test

Create a Snapshot Logging Test in FieldLab Desktop that you can sync & run on a Ralston FieldLab, or use a FieldLab or Field Gauge connected to your PC and log the data directly to FieldLab Desktop.
